Vikings dominate second half, shut out Lions

The Ambrose University Lions looked to bounce back and get their first win on the board in Friday's rematch against the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings.

Both teams came out of the gates firing, each able to generate strong scoring chances. Neither were able to capitalize, however, as Lion's player of the game, goalkeeper Joy Watson, held strong against the pressure from the Vikings to keep the score at an even 0 – 0 to close the frame.

The second half, however, would not stay evenly matched for long as Vikings midfielder Rhidima Gagneja opened the scoring in the 53rd minute. From that point on the floodgates were open as the Vikings, led by their respective player of the game, defender Abby Gisi, shut down any attempts from the Lions to break out of the defensive zone. With momentum on their side the Vikings poured on the pressure behind a header goal from #5 Laura Toutant. Toutant's showtime play would be followed up a minute later by #12 Maya Pardeahtan's first marker of the game. Vikings #14 Lara Birkill also put one home in the 81st minute, and a second from Pardeahtan in the closing minutes capped off a dominant 5 – 0 victory.

The Ambrose Lions will continue the hunt for the elusive first win of the season against Red Deer Polytechnic Saturday afternoon, whilst the Vikings look to carry momentum into next weeks matchup versus the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.

The players of the game were #3 Abby Gisi and for the Ambrose Lions was Goal Kepper, Joy Watson.
