Red Deer Polytechnic Control the Show in Second Matchup Versus Lions

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens and Ambrose Lions faced each other on Friday for their second matchup of the season. The Queens looked to follow up their 16-0 victory on September 17th.

Red Deer Polytechnic opened the scoring early on a penalty shot by #20 Sein Furuyama, picking up right where she left off after 6 goals to her name in the previous match. The Queens continued to have a strong opening half after the initial scoring led by Furuyama. She completed a natural hattrick by scoring consecutive goals in the 11th and 29th minutes respectively. The scoring rush continued soon after with a goal in the 31st minute by #9 Alisha Coules. She didn't stop there, potting another goal in minute 40. The first half would close at a score of 6-0 after a goal in extra time by striker Jenica Swartz.

Ambrose would open the second half with a strong save but failed to grasp any momentum as Furuyama made her return to the scoresheet in the 54th minute. The Lions showed some heart as midfielder Veronica Elyas got a strong shot on goal, but not long after the Queens would pour on the pressure, and once the floodgates are open it's almost impossible to get them shut. Queens player of the game #8 Estel Quinteros would join Furuyama in the hattrick club, putting in four goals of her own at the 64th, 65th, 69th, and 81st minutes. Quinteros wasn't the only one putting on a show in the second half as #10 Paige Kalbfleisch netted a pair of goals of her own and was joined by #17 Lexi Kowalchuk. Not to be outdone, however, was Furuyama, scoring another pair of goals in the closing minutes to match her scoring output from the previous matchup, and closed out a dominant 16-0 victory for Red Deer Polytechnic.

Player of the game honours for Ambrose was given to #25 Kaitlyn Wood.
