Trojans Dominate against Shorthanded Lions

The Ambrose Lions Women's soccer team kicked off a double header of matinees against the SAIT Trojans on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Hampered by injuries in the wake of last nights game against the Olds College Broncos the Lions were only able to field ten players to start the game.

It didn't take long for the Trojans to pour on the offensive pressure despite a very defensive approach from the Lions netting their first goal at the six-minute mark from #4 Harleen Singh. The first of four to go along with three assists to pace the Trojans. Lions keeper Joy Watson was able to keep the game close for a while, coming up with a number of saves in the minutes following minutes but once the Trojans got going it was impossible for the Lions to stem the tide. SAIT would net another seven goals in the first half including a pair by eventual player of the game Amy Fallows. Players Jordynn McPherson, Jade Metz, Gillian McCrimmon, Sydni Clement also found there way onto the scoresheet to close the first half with an 8-0 lead.

The second half continued much like the first with Trojan Teghan Mendes scoring in the 48th minute. Strong defensive play from Lions player of the game Shifra Hetherington helped to slow the bleeding for a time, but the relentless attack from SAIT couldn't be stopped for long as Singh and Fallows would each complete a hattrick. Metz and Mendes also returned to the scoresheet in the second half to close out a dominant 14-0 victory.

Ambrose will take on the Medicine Hat College Rattlers to close out their season at home next Saturday, October 22nd.
