Ambrose Lions host Red Deer Polytechnic in search of their first win of 2022.

Calgary, AB – The Ambrose University Lions hosted the Red Deer Kings on Friday night, and the Kings came away with the victory, winning 3 of the 4 sets played. The final result does not do justice to how close this match was, as 3 of the 4 sets were decided by 4 or less points. The Kings won the first two sets, but the Lions avoided the straight-set-sweep by winning the 3rd set 25-21. The Lions gave the 4th set their all but ended up losing it to the Kings by a score of 29-27.

The Kings had a great performance from setter Maddux Greves (#4) who had 39 assists and 6 digs in the match. The Lions were led by the excellent performances of Emmitt Juul-Hansen (#9) and Nikita Marchenkov (#15). Marchenkov finished the match with 11 kills and 8 digs, while Juul-Hansen ended the match with 40 assists and 2 kills.

The Player of the game for the Kings was Nicholas Possingham (#6) who had 9 kills, 2 assists and 2 digs. The Player of the game for the Lions was Nikita Marchenkov (#15) for his effort on offence (11 kills) as well as defence (8 digs).

These two teams will meet again on Saturday, January 22nd as the Kings host the Lions.
