Season Opener Loss for the Ambrose Lions

Calgary, AB – The Ambrose Lions Women's Basketball team played their home opener tonight against the SAIT Trojans, who ended up winning the game 64-50 (SAIT). The Lions led the game by 2 points after the first quarter but were largely outmatched for the rest of the game by the Trojans who ended up winning by 14 points.

The Trojans had an incredible performance from Brook Baker (#9) who scored an astounding 29 points, adding 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. The Lions had a great game from Paige Goertzen (#14) who scored 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal, as well as an excellent game from reserve player Nya Gach (#9) who scored 12 points and added 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.

The Player of the Game for the Lions was awarded to Paige Goertzen (#14) for her excellent all-around night. The Player of the Game honours for the Trojans was given to Brooke Baker (#9) who scored a game-high 29 points and was tied for the game high in rebound (11) and steals (5).

The Lions will look for a better result in their next game against St. Mary's next Friday and the Trojans will look to repeat their winning effort next Friday against the Briercrest Clippers.
