DECEMBER 2024

Kayla Schuurman was a powerhouse hitter for the Lions in their last weekend of the semester, unstoppable on the left side. Whether a line drive or forcing the ball through a block, Schuurman's power and precision was a sight of beauty in the Lions Den. The second year was in an undeniable grove, making 27 kills along with five service aces against the Eagles. This performance was a new career high, and Kayla's stunning performance, on top of her 7 digs, was a huge factor in the win. The win instilled a new energy into the squad and became a motivator in the following night's three set sweep over the NWP Wolves, allowing the Lions to head into the Winter Break with their first two-win weekend of the semester.

James Censon had a final weekend of the fall semester for the Ambrose Lions, scoring a collective 38 points in two games. During the Saturday evening match-up against the NWP Wolves, Censon hit a career high six 3-pointers and was rightfully named the player of the game. The freshman has been a genuine game changer and stepped up when the team only had three veteran players their last weekend. Censon also had a combined eight rebounds, six assists, and one steal. The first year guard continues to improve by bounds as his confidence grows with each game.

NOVEMBER 2024

Andrijana Bokan, the third year captain, put up a double-double against Concordia University of Edmonton to kick-off November and helped lead her team to four wins to start the 2024/2025 season! Bokan averaged 11 points a game with 13.7 rebounds through the seven games played. She has been strong on both sides of the court and stood her ground. Along with her in game accomplishments, Bokan broke two all-time record at Ambrose this month, taking the All-Time scoring title from Nya Gach with 651 600 career points, and stripping the rebound title from Paige Goertzen with 561. She heads into the second semester short 3 blocks from taking the all-time record and just 21 from the steals record. Her veteran skills and court IQ have been nothing short of an asset to her young team.

Jarom Walton has been a force since the freshman joined the Ambrose Lions' this season. His 6'5 frame has been a much needed addition to the squad and he has demonstrated his abilities this month. Walton ends Novdember being 4th in the ACAC for 3-point percentage, shooting 52.2 per cent from beyond the arch. He is consistently putting himself in good position under the rim to keep the Lions competitive all month, with a collective 91 points, 32 rebounds, 17 assists and 18 steals in his first semester playing college basketball.

OCTOBER 2024

Lindsay Hesjedal has become somewhat of a marked woman on our Lions Women’s Soccer Team.  The centre striker certainly has an eye for goal and tallied her fourth goal of the season. Many a defender, usually two or three at a time, can be found pulling, pushing, sliding, grabbing, at any part of the Ambrose striker as she slices through their back line. Though, Hesjedal's on-field exploits can inspire at any given moment. This past month in particular it has been her compassion and her ability to help her teammate sisters see the positives that underscore our pursuit of excellence.

This month, Jeff Culshaw showed incredible commitment during the week in training, and continuously maintained a great attitude. The second year left-side hitter has demonstrated a desire to contribute to his team this season and the hard work is paying off. He had to perform when the team needed him in their games against Red Deer, and the second year left side rose to the occasion.

SEPTEMBER 2024

Reece Fiwchuk did not hesititate in her first month sporting an Ambrose uniform, jumping into her role as on-field captain seemlessly. Throughout September, Fiwchuk performed with an exemplary display of leadership, tenacity, and gamesmanship. Her tactical prowess helped to guide a rookie backline to the squads first win since the inaugural 2018-19 soccer season. She continued on to go above and beyond the line of duty as the month neared it's end, stepping up and filling in for goaltender Nora Mysko after a shoulder injury against Medicine Hat College. The defender was able to keep her team alive, making two massive saves in Mysko's absense and helped secure the team's second win of 2024.

Men's Soccer Captain Josh Clarke was instrumental in the Lion's performance through September, scoring two of the team's three goals against the Medicine Hat Rattlers and directly creating the chance that lead to our earned penalty, scored by Brady De Castro. Outside of the being a part of all three goals scored on on September 22, he also created three other goal scoring opportunities in the game. His leadership and determination gave the team the push they needed to secure a win on the road against the Olds College Broncos in their final match of the month. Clarke score another two goals for the Lions in their win.
