Black History Month Reflection

BLACK HISTORY MONTH REFLECTIONS.

Black History Month is an annual observance, that started in the United States of America in 1926 and it is known as African-American History Month. It is also observed in Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

It is a month that is set aside to remember people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

It is a time of reflection on the past relationship between Africa and the West. The major actors in the struggles for self-determination of the black race, and the pedestal that they stood on to be able to achieve what they were able to achieve. These events set the tone for black people and the history of our relationship with the West. More importantly, it celebrates the fact that the narrative is shifting away from what it used to be in the past, to what the black people as a whole have been able to achieve in different spheres of life. You want to talk about sports, science and technology, philanthropy, entertainment, nation-building and so many more areas where they have stood out and more importantly left their past behind to be the best that they can be. Black people are very resilient people and they have consistently shown that throughout history and for generations to come. Black people are going to remain relevant no matter where you look at it.

The Names that come to mind when you talk of black people are so many these days that you can't exhaust the list in a jiffy. That is more than amazing to me. I remember the achievements of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, Micheal Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, and Mohammad Alli, and the List goes endless. No matter the area that you turn to, you will surely find a black person who has achieved and is achieving a great deal.
