Athletes of the Week - February 12, 2025

Female Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to our female athlete of the week!

Christina Bett - WVB

In her final weekend dawning a Lions Women's Volleyball jersey in the Lions Den, Christina Bett put on the performance of a lifetime. Not only was Bett a leader in the teams three set sweep on Saturday night, the 5'4 libero reached an incredible career milestone - 500 digs.

Her quick reactions and willingness to sacrifice herself to dig anything and everything thrown at her were a major reason the team was able to end their regular season on a high note. She showed how fiery her spirit and desire was to do give everything for her team. She put up both a career, and season high, of 15 digs and even added an assist to the scoresheet.

Her impact was seen through tears shed on court as Ambrose thanked her for her hard-work and dedication to the program. The next step? The ACAC Women's Volleyball Championships in Camrose, Alberta Feb. 20-22.

Congratulations Tina!

Male Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to our male athlete of the week!

Aaron Hoey - MFUT

Aaron Hoey has been nothing but versatile this futsal season, playing anywhere from goalie to defence to scoring goals up front. His ability was instrumental in the Lions dominant 6-2 victory over the SAIT men’s futsal team on Feb. 10, anchoring the defense while making key contributions on offense. He scored the game-winning goal and later provided a crucial assist to Luke Hunter, sealing the win late in the second half. His standout performance was vital in keeping momentum strong heading into the final weekend of qualifying for the Men’s Futsal Championship.

Hoey currently sits third in scoring for the team and has tallied five points across the programs six games completed. The team now prepares for South Regional #2, taking place in Olds, Alberta, on February 22 and 23, with the hopes of qualifying for the ACAC Championship coming up at Lakeland College.

Congratulations Aaron!
