Athletes of the Week - February 26, 2025

Female Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to our female athlete of the week!

Brooklyn Deol - WVB

Brooklyn Deol was a commanding force while the Lions battled at the 2025 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship in Camrose, AB, this past weekend. Through their two matches, Deol was consistent, strong and tenancious. There wasn’t a moment where the middle wasn’t putting her best effort forward, sealing every possible block and looking to make herself a possible option on every attack.

Her strength also shone from the service line as she knocked down two aces. She finished the weekend with eight blocks, 14 kills and four digs.

Ambrose wasn’t the only group to note Deol’s presence this season, as she was named to the 2025 All-Conference Middle Blockers team this year. Her successes also included a career milestone, passing 100 career blocks made, 95 kills on the season, 44 digs and 35 blocks over 67 sets played.

Brooklyn Deol is a fourth year Bachelor of Business Administration student hailing from Surrey, BC.

Congratulations Brooklyn!

Male Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to our male athlete of the week!

Ryan Wieninger - MFUT

Ryan Wieninger was a defensive standout in our last five matches, including all four games this past weekend.

As the anchor of our defense, he played a key role in our five-game unbeaten streak, which included four victories and a hard-fought draw in our final match of the futsal season. Ryan delivered crucial saves and contributed to our attack, scoring once and adding multiple assists.

The goaltender earned player of the game against the South Regional 2 host, Old's College, after an impressive performance, maintaining his composure through all 50 minutes of play and working to keep his team level headed as well. He could be seen diving in front of every ball shot in his direction and recovering quickly to act again.

His leadership helped guide the team to its best-ever regular/qualifying season record, finishing with a 5-4-1 record and 16 points.

Ryan Wieninger is a first year Bachelor of Education student hailing from Calgary, AB.

Congratulations Ryan!
