Lions Sweep Home Series Versus Briercrest

The Ambrose Lions came into their second matchup of the weekend against Briercrest on a snowy Saturday afternoon looking to follow up their dominant performance on Friday night.

Foul trouble would plague the Lions early as the Clippers jumped out to take the lead. Starting guard Lucas Pederson picked his 3rd, committing a charge just three minutes into the game. On the other side, Clippers player of the game Riley Seaborn lead the way with 7 first quarter points – already an improvement from last game – to take a 27-20 lead after the first. The second continued to be a back-and-forth affair thanks in part to the strong bench play from the Lions. The Lions reserves outscored the Clippers bench 19-0 in the frame and 39-14 for the game enabling the Lions to close the gap to 2, ending the first half with a score of 46-44.

The third quarter was much of the same, with each team going blow-for-blow shown by the even 23-23 score line for the quarter. Lions reserve guard and player of the game Alonzo Tan played all 10 minutes of the fourth that was jam packed with back-and-forth excitement. The final frame contained much of the 9 ties and 9 lead changes that defined how tight the game was. While the rest of the team went cold, Isaac Gray kept the Lions in the driver's seat, scoring 9 of his team high 23 in the frame, but he also kept the Clippers in it as well down the stretch. Gray picked up a technical after an offensive foul turnover that allowed Briercrest to come from down 5 to within 2 after a turnover with 7 seconds to play. An offensive foul by David Mubagwa gave the Clippers possession with 2.9 to play. Out of the time out, Briercrest executed perfectly but Riley Seaborn's floating layup to tie bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded, ending the game 81-83.

The Lions will be back in action next week as they take on Olds College in another back-to-back series as they look to build on their strong start to the season. The Clippers on the other hand will be moving on to face the 2-0 Lethbridge College Kodiaks
