Lions Fought Hard in Second Last Home Game of the Semester
After a tough loss in in their previous matchup, the Lions looked for better results in their rematch against the St. Mary's University Lightning. A tall ask down leading scorer Isaac Gray.
The Lightning picked up right where they left off in their last matchup, jumping out to an 11-0 lead in the first few minutes. From that low point the Lions slowly chipped away at the lead over the course of the quarter. With a score from Hudson Wiebe in the closing seconds the Lions closed the first down 19-25.
To start the second the Lightning went on a 7-0 run to rebuild a double-digit lead. After trading baskets for most of the quarter the Lightning grew their lead to as much as 18. A pair of threes from Ty Schenk in the closing minute shrunk the deficit, but the Lightning still carried a 54-42 advantage going into halftime.
The Lions went cold in the third, shooting just 26% in the quarter. The Lightning didn't fare much better, but thanks to getting to the charity stripe were able to grow the lead back to 18 before the end of the quarter despite the lowest offensive output of the game from each team.
The Lightning continued their offensive onslaught in the fourth reaching their biggest lead of the game at 90-63 with 6 minutes to play. An 11-0 run from the Lions chipped away at the lead, but they couldn't keep the lightning from scoring for long. The teams would trade baskets for the rest of the quarter to finish with a final score of 101-87 for the Lightning.
With the loss the Lions drop to 7-11 having lost their last 6 in a row with three games to play on the season. Player of the game awards were give to the Lightning #10 Johnpaul Okodua and Lions #13 Ty Schenk. The Lions will host the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings on February 11th for their final home game of the regular season.
