Lions Fall Short in Yeung’s Return

The SAIT Trojans came into Ambrose looking to spoil Yeung's return after serving a suspension for a red card versus Red Deer Polytechnic earlier this month and spoil it they did.

Ambrose came into the game missing a couple of regular starters, leading to Matt Smith covering for Connor Klassen in net, and Jacob Goosen getting his first start of the season in place of Jake Clubb. Smith was put to the test early as Ambrose struggled to break out of their zone. Smith added a diving save to his highlight reel after a reckless Lions turnover in front of the net, keeping the game tied through thirty minutes. But given enough opportunities luck would finally go the way of the Trojans as a shot from #16 Malcolm Rektor deflected off an Ambrose defender and in to score from Senay Haile in the 36th minute. The Trojans continued to roll with momentum on their side, scoring in the closing seconds of the first half from #21 Senay Haile.

SAIT continued to set the tone in the second half, extending their lead to three off an unassisted goal from #9 Brock Mitchell. From that point on it was clear SAIT was in control and wasn't looking to give Ambrose any ground. In the 60th minute a weak pass back to the keeper was scooped up by Trojan's forward Kwasi Oteng who made the most of his breakaway opportunity. Smith made a couple more saves for the Lions to secure himself a player of the game nod, but poor communication made space for SAIT's own player of the game, #3 Stanley Sonata, to add a couple goals in the closing minutes of the game for a final score of 6-0.

Ambrose will look to bounce back in their final game of the season next week against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.
