New Lions Women's Volleyball Head Coach

Calgary AB -  Lions Athletics is pleased to announce that Barry Heidebrecht is taking the reins as the new Head Coach of the Women's Volleyball team.

While Colin Kubinec is stepping down to focus more solely on the Athletic Director role with the Lions, Barry will continue to be supported by the other current Assistant coaches, Megan Cyr and Corey Cowper. Coach Barry has an extensive 30 years in coaching and has most recently been an Assistant coach on the Ambrose University Women's team for the past two seasons with a focus on recruiting. 

Barry is a NCCP certified level 3 coach and is a former coach of TWU Women's volleyball team for 4 seasons dating back to the 90's.  His coaching has spanned two other College programs in the CCAA and ACAL, Alberta Provincial Team, and other High-Performance teams that travelled to International tournaments. 

On the club side of things, he was the Women's Coordinator for a 21 team Club in Kelowna for many years with a very high post-secondary signing rate and currently has 2 former club players that are on the Volleyball Nations League Canadian National team. Barry received a Community Sport Hero award from the City of Kelowna for his work in club volleyball, and has coached at the 18U level for over 8 years producing Division 1- top 5 provincial finishes during that time. 

Lions Athletics is very excited to have Barry take the lead and continue to see the Lions Women's Volleyball program rise to new heights.
