Lions Sweep Broncos at Home

The Olds College Broncos came into Ambrose Friday night looking to turn their 0-2 start to the season against the first seed Ambrose Lions.

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair with Olds opening the scoring. The teams would trade rallies back forth leading to a 11-11 tie halfway through the set. #2 Taylor Hart led the Lions on a run to go up 16-13, leading to Olds using their first timeout. The Broncos struggled to stem the Lions momentum until a huge block to close the gap until a big block from #13 Tabitha Martin, closing the gap to 20-22 and triggering a Lions timeout. At match point, the Broncos won an extended rally but couldn't overcome the deficit dropping the opening set 22-25.

Ambrose came out strong to open the second set taking a 6-2 lead and gaining momentum on an ace by #2 leading to an early Olds' timeout. The Broncos would slowly bring it back to a tie at 12-12, but a couple faults would come back to bite them. Strong offensive play from Broncos #13 and #6 wasn't enough and Ambrose took the second set 25-21.

The Lions came out strong in the third to take an early 8-4 lead, setting the tone for what would be the final set. Despite the strong aggressive play from Broncos #13 Tabitha Martin with her 13 kills, Ambrose's strong all-around performance took the third with a dominant 25-12 score to finish off the sweep. Player of the game awards were given to Ambrose #5 Sarie Kumassah and Olds #8 Samantha Laboucan. The Lions and Broncos will be facing off again tomorrow night at Olds College at 6pm.
