Lions Lose on Seniors Night

Lions Lose on Seniors Night

After winning in Lethbridge, the Ambrose Lions played host to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks for their final home game of the season. The Lions celebrated Seniors Night to recognize their graduating captain #6 Maddy Willscroft.

The first set of the night started out evenly matched between the Lions and the Kodiaks. After being tied 11-11, the Lions finally broke out ahead taking a 6-point advantage down the stretch. After a Kodiaks timeout down 12-18 they were able to chip away at the lead, but it wasn't enough as the Lions ended up taking the set 25-20. Taylor Hart led all players with 4 kills in the set.

Set number two started out much the same way. The teams remained in lockstep at 9-9, but this time the Kodiaks were the ones to break out ahead. A pair of aces from #17 Eryka woods were part of a 4-0 run to take control of the set. The Kodiaks grew the lead further, forcing a Lions timeout after taking a suffocating 21-14 lead. It wouldn't help the Lions stem the tide with the Kodiaks closing out the set 25-15 to even up the set count.

Looking to keep the momentum going in their favor the Kodiaks came out strong to start the third set. After being down 4 the Lions brought it back even at 14-14 thanks to the strong play of Bethany Johnson and Gracee Fehr and eventually taking the lead to force a Kodiaks timeout at 16-14. The Kodiaks were able to recover to take a 21-19 lead down the stretch which they wouldn't relinquish, taking the third set 25-23.

Momentum continued to go in the Kodiaks favor into the fourth set jumping out to an 8-3 lead. Faced with a growing deficit the Lions called timeout down 6-12. Out of the timeout the Kodiaks onslaught continued as the difference continued to grow. The Lions couldn't keep up with the pressure put on by the Kodiaks as the Kodiaks took the fourth and final set with commanding 25-14 score.

With the loss the Lions drop to 13-5 after starting out the season 11-1. They will go on to face the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings for their final game of the season on February 11th. #6 Maddy Williscroft received player of the game in her final home game for the Lions while #11 Taryn Bach received the award for the visiting Kodiaks.
